Crespi d’Adda is a valuable example of industrial archeology. Founded in 1878 by cotton entrepreneur Cristoforo Benigno Crespi, on land bordered by the Brembo and Adda rivers, the whole village developed around the factory, which is the engine and fulcrum of the whole complex. Moving into the urban axis, designed with order and geometry, you’ll come across the workers’ houses, where they went after work, the school, the church, and the cemetery, one of the most fascinating monuments of the early twentieth century.

Visiting Crespi takes about four or five hours.

It is worth to start the visit from the top, next to the houses of the doctor and the priest, in order to have an overview of the urban structure.

Then, once you reach the network of streets, let yourself be guided by instinct.

You will seeflowingin front of you the factory, the work houses, the school, the church, the cooperative, the public baths, the after work, the houses of the department heads and directors.

There are two buildings that stand out from the regular pattern of the village, the mansion, castle-shaped, and the cemetery.

Do not miss the chance to visit the river Adda, a stone’s throw from the town. From the footbridge that links to Crespi Concesa, you can enjoy the magnificent view of nature and the workers’ village that combine with one another.

Should leave the car in the square Cleopatra Bagnarelli and from there begin the tour.
